Course description

POL 361, International Organizations, explores the institutional structures, political processes, and impact of international organizations within the larger context of world politics. International organizations, both governmental and nongovernmental, play an increasingly prominent role in efforts to regulate and eliminate a wide range of global problems. In this course particular attention is accorded to the general problem areas of international security, the global distribution of wealth, and threats to social welfare.

Class periods involve lecture material related to topics covered in assigned readings. Questions and class discussion are strongly encouraged at any time. Final grades are based on an in-class midterm exam (20%), a comprehensive final exam (30%), a research paper of approximately 15-20 pages (40%), and class participation (10%).
